Our Story

Introducing Feeldom...

The journey of a small company passionate about making a big impact in the disability community.

FEELDOM was founded in 2019 by Mikyoung "Julia" Kim, a clothing-maker living in South Korea.

Where did this idea come from?  At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Julia had the opportunity to construct the uniforms for the athletes, including those competing in the Paralympic Games. The people she met there told her that people with disabilities have difficulty finding suitable adaptive clothing. She thought she could do something meaningful by designing something new.

At that time, FEELDOM was still an idea, and Julia had the passion to learn more about people living with disabilities. She taught a sewing workshop for people with disabilities to learn a new skill. There, she continued to hear about the mobility challenges these individuals faced in their daily lives.  Even more than adaptive clothing, they told her they needed a stylish and functional wheelchair bag that could carry all of their supplies in one sturdy case.

Before FEELDOM, people living with quadriplegia had to use several bags, backpacks and shopping bags to carry their belongings and equipment. It was unsafe and inconvenient to them. In addition to that, they felt unattractive and ashamed to go out in public, missing out on opportunites to enjoy their lives.

Over the following year, Julia met with countless people and independent living centers to develop a prototype of the FEELDOM wheelchair bag. Being based on the ideas and feedback of those individuals and their caregivers, the new wheelchair bag became an instant success among the disability community in South Korea, and several new styles were developed soon thereafter.

Julia's colleages from the Dobong Independent Living Center have played a pivotal role in the development of FEELDOM's designs for various products,  (below) such as the MAX, and STAR wheelchair bags, which are able to house a respirator and breathing equipment while still looking stylish.

The specialized system of 8 adjustable straps on the back of the FEELDOM wheelchair bag was essential for safety and security, allowing the bag to fit on many different kinds of wheelchairs and scooters. She was awarded the Seoul Award as well as Women's Invention of the Year, Gold Prize in 2020 for the design of the FEELDOM wheelchair bag.

During the COVID pandemic in 2021, Julia's American cello teacher and friend, Adrianne Mascho (below, right) was given the opportunity to join FEELDOM as the lead designer and help people from all over the world get access to their revolutionary wheelchair bags.

Despite having little experience with marketing, Adrianne had a background in art and wanted to contribute to designing new disability products. Challenge accepted, Julia and Adrianne forged on to launch the USA-based FeeldomLife online store in November of 2021, to rave reviews.

"By far the highest quality wheelchair bag I have ever seen... well worth the price."

FEELDOM donates a percentage of our bags as a way to give back to the disability communiy and to foster new relationships. In doing so, our small company from S. Korea continues to make a social impact in many countries around the world. The "One Bag For All" 10% Campaign was started in 2022. Each year, FEELDOM pledges at least 10% of website sales to in-kind donations to various disability organizations.

"This bag has changed my life for the better."
